Attacks Walking and Public Toilets

How to be more aware of what is going on around you while walking in public. What to do, and things to say if you think you're being followed. How to avoid surprise attacks while entering a public toilet. Walk in well-lit areas and keep away from doors. Doors can suddenly fly open and you may find yourself unwillingly going through the doorway, never to be heard from again! If you find yourself in an unfamiliar place switch on. Become more aware of what is going on around you. Watch out for trouble and be ready for it (more like ready to avoid it). When you're out in public, be aware of what is going on around you. Are you being followed or watched? If you think that somebody is following you home (maybe from working late), it may be better not to go straight home. If you do, the person following you will know where you live. It may be better to go to some place where there are people: shops, library, restaurant etc. If you're followed at night and there are no shops around, look for a well-maintained respectable looking house that has lights on inside. Someone is more likely to be home if you can see lights. You can assume that there won't be anyone home and do something like thisHere's a little trick to use if you're being followed at nightIf the person following is close enough to hear you speak. As you walk down the pathway to the front door of a house with a light on, call out a name (make it up) as if you are letting someone know that you have arrived home. Remember that as far as an attacker is concerned three is a crowd. When he hears you calling out to someone he will call off the pursuit: "Bob, I'm home at last, what's for dinner?" If you get to the front door, knock and say with a loud voice, "Bob, open the door will you? Pause then say, "ALRIGHT, don't yell!" as if there IS someone there named Bob, and he IS on his way to open the door. You may actually have someone answer the door. Quickly tell them what has happened and get them to call the police. With a bit of luck, they will come and give you a ride home. Use your good judgment as far as going inside the house of a stranger. You could say," I'll wait here for the police thanks!" Or just keep them talking out the front.

Public toilets

When you are walking with someone else, the chance of being attacked is significantly reduced. The same rule applies when you are going to a public toilet/restroom. When you DO go on your own, it is time to become VERY aware of your surroundings! Let's take a closer look at thisAs you walk in, listen for footsteps and the sounds of sliding feet on the floor. These sounds COULD be someone who has seen you coming from a window and is getting into position, ready to pounce! As you go inside, keep listening and also look at the walls and floor for people shadows moving and still. The entrances to toilets usually have corners to go around. By looking for people shadows, you will not be so surprised when a person appears. Always be ready to defend yourself when entering a public toilet always! An attacker won't just jump anyone. He needs to be able to SEE you coming, and on your own, make the decision to attack, and he will then, most likely, need to move from a select the victim position to an attack position. This move will need to be done quickly. It is hard to be quick and quiet, so if you learn to listen and become aware of movement, you will take away an attackers biggest advantage the element of surprise!

Conclusion

You can use your voice - "Bob, I'm home at last, what's for dinner?" to scare an attacker off. You can learn to use your ears to listen, and your eyes to watch out for telltale signs of an attacker getting ready to pounce. When it comes right down to basics, your eyes, ears, voice and your ability to feel or sense danger are what has kept you alive so far it is what keeps the human race alive.
